Drums of the Desert | Raag Malkauns | Alap Artist: H.P.Ramamurthy These drums are tuned to the various notes of the octave, which enables the player to coax ragas and melodies from them. The Tabla player who has attained finesse in playing his instrument may venture into tabla tarang playing and become the main player. Disjunct notes and limited range (not more than 16 instruments can be played because the player cannot reach out to too many) are the limitations of the instrument. Yet it is a novelty as it turns a rhythmic instrument into a melody instrument.

Tabla Tarang is a melodic percussion instrument consisting of between ten and sixteen tuned dayan drums. In a tabla "pair" instrument, the dayan is the treble drum and the bayan is the bass drum. Tarang means "waves". By hitting with the hand at the center of the different dayan drums - known as syahi - notes of different pitches are produced like a bell ringing. The player is able to perform melodies based on several ragas. Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western music, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music.

This Dadra brings alive the expression of love and pining of Meera...I love the composition and do hope that you will too... Here is a Dadra geet in Raga Kirwani, 'Yeh Main Jaanu' sung by Trina. Kirwani is a meloncholic, heart-rending and sentimental Raga appropriate for the verses of the song. It is a harmonic minor raga with moods of love, devotion and sadness.

Barsan Laagi Saawan Bundiya' is a Dadra within the Thumri genre from the Patiala Gharana of Hindustani Classical Music. It is based on Raga Mishra Pilu and has also been used in the movie, Halla Bol. The original composition of 'Barsan Laagi' is accredited to Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and his brother Ustad Barkat Ali Khan. The poetic voice is that of a woman who is yearning for the one she loves. The drops of rain make her restless in the memory of her beloved.
