Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Ustad Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Ustad Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.

Pandit Jasraj is an Indian classical vocalist. He belongs to the Mewati gharana of Hindustani classical music. Jasraj's vocal range extends three-and-a-half octaves and uses precise diction, a trademark of the Mewati gharana's style of khayal. He has also done extensive research in Haveli Sangeet under Baba Shyam Manohar Goswami Maharaj to create numerous innovative bandish (composition).

Shahid Parvez Khan is the sitar maestro of global acclaim and is regarded as one of the finest Indian Classical musicians alive. He is one of the most brilliant musical gems of the famous Etawah tradition and belongs to the seventh generation of this musical lineage. Here Ustad Shahid Parvez gives a stunning performance of Raga Dhani. Raag Dhani is a light and playful Raag so usually drut and madhyalaya gat are played. Shringar or Bhakti Ras compositions are aptly played in this raga.
 

Mallikarjun Bheemarayappa Mansur was an Indian classical singer of the khayal style hailing from the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana or School of Hindustani classical music. Mansur was born on December 31, 1911, at Mansur, a village five km. west of Dharwad, Karnataka.His father, Bheemaraayappa was village headman,a farmer by occupation was an ardent lover and patron of music. He had four brothers and three sisters. His elder brother Baswaraj owned a theatre troupe, thus at age nine Mansur did a small role acted in play.

Late Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi was an Indian vocalist from Karnataka in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the khayal form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music. Raag Bhairav is a Hindustani Classical heptatonic (Sampurna) Raga of Bhairav Thaat. Traditionally it is a morning raga. Bhairav is considered to be the most ancient fundamental Raag of Hindustani Classical Music. Also, it is believed that Bhairav was the very first Raag to be created by Lord Shiva.

A peerless artiste of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana, Kishori Amonkar developed her own style with concentrated sadhana. She believes that a raga should be developed so that it unfurls like a bud blooming into a rose, each note coloured with its mood, its feeling. In this audio, the artiste has conveyed the mood of pleasantness through Raga Yaman.

Amjad Ali Khan was born into a musical family and has performed internationally since the 1960s. He was awarded India's second highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2001. This track is from one of the finest albums by the maestro. Trained in the dhrupad-oriented style of the Senia gharana, coming from the Tansen School of Music, Amjad Ali Khan has mastered in expressing a raga in spectrum of feelings and emotions.

As the sun sets, another set of Sandhi Prakash ragas come into the picture. These are the counterparts of the pre-dawn ragas. At this time, light meets darkness unlike dawn and this difference is reflected in the swaras used.The sunset ragas are once again somber and introspective. Accompanying Kishoriji are Balkrishna Iyer (Tabla), Purushottam Walawalkar (Harmonium) and Vidya Bhagwat (Tanpura and Vocal Support). The recording is published on Navras Records album "Prabhat" (NRCD 0111).

A rare and first ever duet of Sitar and Sarangi was presented by Navras Records / Sama Arts at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall in August 1993. The two legends of these instruments, Ustad Rais Khan (Sitar) and Ustad Sultan Khan (Sarangi) accompanied by Pandit Anindo Chatterjee (Tabla) mesmerised the audience that evening with brilliance and moving music that touched one and all. Here we present an excerpt of the Drut Gat in teentaal (16-beat cycle) in Raga Yaman Kalyan. This first half of the concert performance is released on the Navras Cd NRCD 0024.

The legendary Kishori Amonkar (1932 ~ 2017) passed away last April just a week short of 85 years. Kishoriji was one of the foremost vocalists in the Hindustani Khayal Music Tradition and an innovator of the Jaipur Gharana (Tradition). Her voice had an ethereal quality that enraptured her audiences with its mystical magic which evoked serenity and spiritulity in the minds and hearts of her listeners! Here we present a Dhrut Bandish (Composition) in Teentaal (16-beat cycle) in the early evening melody, Raga Shuddh Kalyan.

An excerpt from the Navras Records DVD (NRDVD 014) titled "ROMANCING THE RAINS" from a concert at London's Royal Festival Hall (27 Sep 2002). The excerpt here comprises of parts of Jor and Jhala movements. Raga Mian Ki Malhar is a rainy season melody. Ustadji is accompanied by Pandit Fateh Singh Gangani (Pakhawaj), Ustad Rashid Mustafa (Tabla) and Mamta Baxi (Tanpura).

On 3rd July 2016, the Dhrupad Maestro Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar Saheb gave a tribute concert in memory of the Navras Director Shri Kirit Baxi, on his birthday, just two years short of his passing. The Concert, presented by Sama Arts Network at the Cecil Sharp House near London's Regent's Park was a very moving tribute. We share here the concluding item of the Concert, an Incantation Raga Bairagi.

Ayaan Ali Bangash, seventh generation of the Senia Gharana and the younger son of The Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan, has recorded this performance on the Sarod of Raga Kamod (and Raga Kirwani) in a studio back in 2013. Here we present the Gat Composition in Teentaal (16-beat cycle) with Tanmoy Bose on Tabla accompaniment. Raga Kamod, an evening melody is lesser known and performed than its variant Tilak Kamod.

Ustad Imrat Khan Saheb (Sitar) accomapnied by Pandit Anindo Chatterjee (Tabla) ~ Raga Yaman - Drut Bandish (Cmposition) in Teentaal (16-beat cycle) at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (March 2002). This excerpt is from the Navras Album "Legendary Legacy" (NRCD 02005).

In January 1994 Sama Arts and Navras Records presented a morning concert of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (Sarod) accompanied by Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari (Tabla). This conert recording was done at an art gallery venue (Kufa Gallery) in London. Our Technical Director, Kirit Baxi recorded this Concert and managed to produce the quality of the sound and ambience that is truly remarkable and does huge justice to an outstanding performance by the Maestro.

A moving rendition by India's foremost Diva, Kishori Amonkar, of the early morning Raga Todi from an All-Night Concert presented by Sama Arts Network / Navras Records at London's Royal Festival Hall (September 1998). This audio clip features excerpts from Drut Teentaal and Tarana in Teentaal. The performance is released under a 2-CD Navras Album "PRABHAT" (NRCD 0133/4) featuring Raga Todi and a rarely performed Raga Lalit Pancham.

Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb plays a number of historic compositions in Raga Piloo on this Navras album a tribute to his father Ustad Inayat Khan Saheb, titled "Inayat" (NRCD 0159). One of these compositions which is presented here was composed by his father. Vilayat Khan Saheb is accompanied by Vijay Ghate on Tabla

The Sarangi Maestro rendering a soulful Rajasthani Folk Song in Raga Mishra Shivranjani (audio on Navras CD titles NRCD 0004 and NRCD 0112/3). He is accompanied on the Tabla by Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan and Loveleena Labroo on Tanpura (Royal College of Music, London, Oct 1990). This is an informal video shot for archival reference and is therefore not of perfect quality but will not detract from enjoying a beautiful performance - an excerpt of which is shown here

Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra have been an outstanding duo on the Hindustani Classical Vocal Music scene for last few decades. The Brothers hail from the Benaras Gharana with their illustrious lineage. Navras Records were privileged in association with Sama Arts to present them at concerts in London. This is an excerpt of their rendering of the morning Raga Desi from the Dhrut Khayal Bandish in Teentaal (16-beat cycle). The concert was presented by Sama Arts at London's Kufa Gallery on 16th July 1995 and released on the Navras Catalogue under reference NRCD 0057

Pandit Jasraj renders a rarely performed Raga Bihagda - an amalgam of Ragas Bihag and Khamaj. This excerpt from the Dhrut Bandish, composed by the legendary Mian Tansen, is from a concert presented by Navras Records and Sama Arts Network at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall (August 1993). Pandit-ji is accompanied by Kedar Pandit (Tabla), Dr Arvind Thatté (Harmonium) and Ratan Mohan Sharma (Vocal Support). The full performance was released on Navras Records Catalogue (Ref: NRCD 0036) and is available under Sony Music India on all digital download and streaming platforms.

D V Paluskar gave his debut performance at the Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan in Jalandhar, Punjab at the age of fourteen. He inherited the styles of the Gwalior gharana and the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
