Paluskar was a veteran singer of classical music

Vishnu Digambar Paluskar is named among the singers of Hindustani classical music who sang Ramadhun in many gatherings of Mahatma Gandhi during the independence movement. In Gandharva Vidyalaya, Delhi, teacher O. P. Rai pointed out that Paluskar was a distinguished genius in the field of Hindustani classical music who has made significant contributions to Indian music.

Special on birthday on August 18th

He said that Paluskar popularized Hindustani classical music by singing Ramadhun on various forums including Mahatma Gandhi's gatherings.

Rai said that Paluskar gave a special place to Indian music by establishing Gandharva Vidyalaya in Lahore. In addition, he made an important contribution to the modern generation by collecting the notation of all the tunes of his time.
This pioneer singer of Hindustani classical music was born on 18th August 1872 in Kurundwad of the Bombay Presidency under British rule. Paluskar found an atmosphere of music in the house as his father Digambar Gopal Paluskar sang religious hymns and kirtan.

Vishnu Digambar Paluskar had to go through a terrible tragedy in his childhood. A firecracker exploded near his eye during Dattatreya Jayanti in a nearby town and the light in both his eyes was gone.
After losing his sight, he went to the nearby Miraj state for treatment. In Miraj, he started getting music education from Balakrishnabua Ichalkaranjikar. After twelve years of formal music training, Paluskar's relationship with his guru deteriorated and he set out on a tour of India. During this time he visited Baroda and Gwalior.
He also did public music programs to earn money. Paluskar is probably the first classical singer to hold public concerts.

Later Paluskar came to Mathura and he learned Braj language to understand the restrictions of classical music. The restrictions are mostly written in Brajbhasha. Apart from this, he also learned Dhrupad style singing in Mathura.
Paluskar reached Lahore after Mathura, touring Punjab and in 1901 he established Gandharva Vidyalaya. Through this school he prepared many musical geniuses.

However, he had to take a loan from the market to run the school. He later set up his school in Mumbai. A few years later, due to economic reasons, the school could not run and due to this, Paluskar's property was also confiscated.
Paluskar's disciples included veteran singers like Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, Pandit Vinayak Rao Patwardhan, Pandit Narayan Rao and his son DV Paluskar. He wrote a book called Sangeet Bal Prakash in three volumes and collected the notation of ragas in 18 volumes.

This great seeker of music died on August 21, 1931.
