L. Subramaniam

L. Subramaniam is a talented Indian violinist, composer and talented performer of South Indian and Western classical music with Carnatic music. The melodies composed by them are unique in themselves. Not only is he a violinist, but he is also known as a revolutionary changer of technology and new experiments in music.

As a child, he had acquired special skills in the field of classical music. He is the only person who was known as ‘Violin Chakravarti’ (i.e. Violin Emperor) in his childhood. Not only did he become involved in the violin music profession, but he also composed, composed and improved hundreds of old tunes.

He is well versed in Carnatic music as well as Western classical music, jazz, fusion, orchestra and world music. They have been honored not only in India but in many countries of the world. He has also performed at many international concerts at the request of many eminent musicians from around the world. He has recorded more than 150 recordings and has also worked with many great musicians, such as Jewish Menuhin, Stephen Grappelli and Ragiero Ricci. He is best known for mixing his musical tunes with orchestras.

Early life:

L. Subramaniam was born on July 23, 1947 in Chennai (Madras, Tamil Nadu) to a distinguished musician family. He belongs to a South Indian Tamil family. He performed his first public concert on stage at the tender age of six. Music was in his veins from his childhood, which his mother Sitalakshmi and father V. Laxminarayan as a boon as they were both famous musicians.

Subramaniam spent his childhood in Jaffna (Sri Lanka). Being from a reputed musician family, he started taking steps in this direction at an early age. He received his early musical education from his parents, who taught him the basics of music.

Apart from music, Subramaniam also studied medical science in his college days. He did his MBBS from Madras Medical College. Degree. His tenure as a doctor was short-lived and he resumed his study of music a few days later. During this time he received his master's degree in Western music from the California Institution of the Arts.

During this time he had the golden opportunity to rehearse with many eminent contemporary musicians. Although he studied medicine and earned a doctorate, he pursued music as his profession as a violinist. His admirers affectionately call him 'Mani'.

Family life:

Her first marriage was to Viji Subramaniam in the year 1976, but unfortunately she died on February 9, 1995. Then in the year 1999, he got married for the second time to the popular Indian playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy. From their first marriage, they had four children, who followed the music education of their father Subramaniam and have also given presentations in many concerts.

His eldest daughter Ginger Shankar is currently working as a music composer in Los Angeles. His second daughter Bindu (Sita) is a famous singer and songwriter. His eldest son Narayan is a surgeon (doctor) who is also a singer. While his younger son Ambi is a violinist who has gained a lot of fame.

His contribution to the promotion of Indian and Western music:

L. Subramaniam's contribution to Indian music has been significant. He performed live music of well-known Indian Carnatic music genres of his time such as Chembai Vaidyanath Bhagavatar, M.D. Ramanathan etc. He has also played 'Mridangam' in many stage shows with famous musician Palghat Mani Iyer. Not only did he perform skillfully for the orchestra on the violin, but he also composed music for many Hollywood movies. He has also composed music for several Bollywood films such as Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala, which are directed by Mira Nair.

He also performed as a solo violinist in Bernardo Bertolucci's films Little Buddha and Cotton Mary of Merchant-Ivory. He performed his orchestral programs in New York under the name 'Fantasy of Vedic Chant (Mantra)'. He has also performed in various concerts with Zubin Mehta's 'Swiss Romande Orchestra', 'Oslo Philharmonic' with two violins and 'Global Symphony' Berlin Opera. He has also written some books based on Carnatic music.
