Basuriya | Susmit Sen & Trina Chatterjee

After Bhindeshi Tara, Susmit and I are delighted to present our second brush with re-imagining Bengali iconic songs..This one is a tribute to Kabir Suman, the living legend of Bengali Music, and our humble rendition of his iconic composition, Basuriya (Flautist). This song is an ode to migrant workers from villages of Bihar & UP who had made Kolkata their home temporarily to earn a living. After a hard day’s work in the night, they found their homes and loved ones in the comfort of their flutes..their melodies still ring in my head whenever I think of my growing-up years in Kolkata.. Susmit’s picks up Basuriya and takes it deservedly to its folky roots while he weaves his characteristic spell with the guitar; thank you Sudheer for bringing alive the Bihari folk strains, Suchet for the magic you create with your percussions, Brin Desai for recording this so well and Nandit Desai for brilliantly transforming our day at work Into a clutch of vignettes.. Finally, I recognise that it’s almost impossible to do justice to Kabir Suman’s compositions and I share our effort with all humility and some trepidation as well..wish us luck of the brave, if nothing else.
