It is used in temple, folk and Carnatic music, often accompanying the nadaswaram. The thavil and the nadaswaram are essential components of traditional festivals and ceremonies in South India. Nadaswaram: The nadhaswaram, nagaswaram, or nathaswaram is a double reed wind instrument from Tamilnadu.
