कुचिपुड़ी का उद्भव अर्थात् Origination- आन्ध्र-प्रदेश के कृष्णा जिले के, ‘‘कचेलुपुरम’’ गांव के नाम पर हुआ। दरअसल संस्कृत के शब्द कचेलुपुरम या कुसीलवपुरी को ही बोलचाल की भाषा में ‘‘कुचिपुड़ी’’ कहा जाता है। इसकी शुरूआत 3rd Century BCE से हुई और तबसे ही यह नृत्य शैली-अपने ‘‘नृत्य-नाट्य’’ समागम के रूप में स्थापित है।
