Traditionally, Bharatanatyam has been a solo dance that was performed exclusively by women, and expressed Hindu religious themes and spiritual ideas, particularly of Shaivism, but also of Vaishnavism and Shaktism. A disciple of renowned Guru K J Sarasa, Srekala Bharath is a passionate dancer, an ingenious choreographer and an inspirational teacher. Srekala started dancing her way into the hearts and minds of rasikas at the tender age of seven with her inimitable style, nimble footwork and exquisite abhinaya.Srekala is a dedicated & vibrant performer who’s been performing in the concert circuits of Chennai & other Indian cities. Her acclaimed Lecture-Demonstrations have captured her innovative spirit and unique sense of perspective. Srekala has created thematic presentations ranging from traditional classics to modern day concepts. All of these have received critical acclaim including the Kalaimamani, Tamilnadu state award, and the Bharata Rathnam from the Government of Sri Lanka. Srekala is deeply committed to the exceptional development of her students enabling them to evolve as artistes as they share in her creative journey at 'Thejas', an institution she founded that defines talent and continues to empower artistic expression in Chennai, India for over a decade.
